I remember Hamilton’s mentions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in his papers. I’m no American, but I do wonder how close present-day America is to the dysfunction of the Commonwealth that led to its partitions.
That was in Federalist 19 (I just had to look it up) which was Madison.
Our current dysfunction kind of parallels the Polish example, not in structure but in the finished product. The Articles of Confederation were a closer semblance of Poland's model in the 1770s, which is what Publius argued against.
Nowadays you can see some similarity in overrepresented blue districts, which remain fortified through gerrymandering and illegal voting. But it would take a huge text wall for me to lay out the details on that.
Short answer is that there are some functional similarities and some key institutional differences.
