Reading Recap, weeks 32 & 33
I'm back from vacation
I was out of town last Sunday and all last week, so I didn’t bother with poasting. My reading has been sporadic and incomplete, so here’s what I’ve dipped in and out of over the last two weeks:
Finished:
ALLIANCE OF SHADOWS by Correia/Kupari. I did a video on it.
ANNE OF GREEN GABLES by Montgomery. Liked it more than I thought I would, definitely more than I liked having to watch the movie or whatever in 6th grade. Video forthcoming.
Unfinished:
WORLD BREAKERS (Baen anthology). I got through a few of those in the car when I wasn’t doing other stuff. Three have been very good and one was just okay.
HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX by Rowling. We have read the first four as a family so we just started the audiobook of this one in the car with the kids. We wrapped up at the part where Harry sees the thestrals for the first time. I’ve read this whole series three times I think, maybe four? This is the only book I have read in Spanish so the last time I read the series in English I just skipped it, it’s extremely emo and I kind of have to be in a mood to put up with it. That said, Rowling does capture what it’s like to be 15, and I think we can all agree that that age sucks.
ILIUM by Simmons. This author seems to come highly recommended but I haven’t been able to force my way through his other works. Due to the connections with Homer I think I have the best shot here. I’m a few hours into the audio. Like it so far.
Forthcoming:
This is going to be a big week for comics and graphic novels, since I’ll have two weeks’ worth of pull file stuff to pick up, as well as a new UNNAMED series installment to read. Hope it’s good. I should also finish ILIUM, along with one or two more audiobooks.
