Reading Recap: week 27
OHHHHHHHH WE'RE HALFWAY THERE...
Audiobooks
DOOMSDAY RECON by Jason Anspach and Ryan Williamson.
This ended up being the only audiobook I finished, this week was weird. That said, it was great, and I did a good video on it.
Print Books and Comics
Three big drops here, we got VOID RIVALS #10, REDCOAT #3, and ROOK: EXODUS #3.
In this issue we finally learn the true connection between the VOID RIVALS characters and the whole “energon” aspect of the Energon Universe. Basically Darak and Solila have gems in their foreheads that are connected to energon, and they are more or less powered by it. The series also introduces a character named Zerta Trion, a kind of Transformer deity on par with Alpha Trion. This is a name I’ve heard but admittedly I’m not super familiar with it, so I’m curious to see how the handle this concept in harmony with the canon.
But the main thing is that VOID RIVALS is back on track.
REDCOAT also picks things up in volume 3. It’s hard to explain how without recapping the first two volumes, and that’s the stuff of recap videos, but yeah, this thing found its stride and the previous two are vindicated by it.
That said, there is probably no comic I’m enjoying more than ROOK EXODUS right now. Good hell, if there were toys I would start collecting—and volume 3 gives us a list of new wardens that would make for a hell of a toy line.
The cover art is from a scene where Rook plugs himself into the warden network and sees the other wardens still on the planet. The villainous Ursaw is out killing wardens and collecting helmets so he can solidify his control—and he’s coming for the stronghold that’s protecting the network.
The art, the concept, the characters…you need to be reading this series.
Next week I’m going to blitz a trilogy and do a video on that, heading into Independence Day.
