Reading Recap, week 23
A light week
I did some more SHOGUN reading but I forgot to put up a video. Whoopsie.
As far as series reading, I read another Longmire and another Reacher, reviewed below.
The new comic book was SCARLETT #1 from Skybound.
Truth be told, it makes me a little nervous. When you’ve seen the same signs turn into the same debacles over and over again in storytelling for more than a decade, it’s hard to give something the benefit of the doubt. In this issue, we find out that Scarlett and Jinx were best friendsies roommates before Jinx went missing, embedding herself deep inside the Arashikage organization (to which Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow belong.)
I’m wary that they’re gonna turn it into every other female friendship in pop culture with heavyhanded lesbian overtext, because chicks aren’t allowed to be friends in nerd properties. They’ve all got to be romantically involved or else patriarchy.
I’m trying not to read too much into it. Guess we’ll see next month when issue 2 comes out, but the seeds could definitely be there. I want this to be good like the other Skybound Energon stuff.
This week was actually a lot better for production as far as writing and drawing, so I didn’t worry as much about reading. I’m overdue for a Silmarillion update so I’ll get to that.
