Reading Recap, week 22
A LOT of comics, among other things
Work has calmed down for the summer. That means fewer audiobooks because I’m not on the clock for 55 hours.
SO. Here’s what I got up to.
COMICS
GHOST OF THE BADLANDS was incredible. I’ll do a video on that one this week out in the shop, you have to see the art to believe it. I also don’t want to undersell Razorfist’s writing, he told a very good story, and this is from me, a guy who’s equal parts warm and cold on Razorfist.
YAIRA #1 showed up, I did a video here. I also ordered issue 1 of the Rippazine and thought that was pretty cool. About a third of it was repeated sample pages from the other Rippaverse books, the rest was a 13-page sample of a new character called Salvage, and then there were interviews with writers and creators in other media. For seven bucks it wasn’t bad at all.
I caught up on last week’s comic reading too, so I’ve finished COBRA COMMANDER and I’m current on VOID RIVALS.
To be honest, this series is slowly down for me. They introduced Springer, an Autobot living at the top of the Rivals’ world, and it was kind of pointless. The last three issues have taken place in the same situation with the same stakes and it’s not progressing like it was in the beginning. Hopefully they wrap up this second arc strong with issue 10.
My personal favorite was ROOK EXODUS issue 2. That series is awesome. I’ll do a shop video for this one too so you can see the art. The stakes are mostly the same but the introduction of Dire Wolf has shown Rook that he doesn’t have to leave, and in fact maybe the planet of Exodus can be salvaged.
AUDIOBOOKS
I got another few chapters of SHOGUN in the rear view, here’s the latest update.
And the real runaway surprise was my re-reading of CODEX BABYLON by Kroese. It’s not often I can find a book that reminds of the feel and pacing of a Crichton novel, but this one did it.
I’m about halfway through the latest Longmire installment and I’ll have that one done tomorrow.
PRINT
Because of dumb scheduling stuff happening at work, I got more time to read THE SILMARILLION, so I’m making progress on that project. Read the first installment here.
Technically I have another print book to read but that will only happen in the evenings and such.
Thanks for reading to the end.
