Reading Recap 2024, week 4
Roosevelt and Reacher
Last week I finally read a book my brother gave me forever ago, called LION IN THE WHITE HOUSE by Aida Donald. It prompted a video, which has since done above-normal numbers on the channel.
I also finished the fourth Jack Reacher novel, which was highly entertaining, although it dealt with hypnosis as a plot mechanism and that made it a little bit difficult to accept the reveal at the end. Also, Lee Child overrelies on the tactic of having Reacher figure something out while his tagalong helper fails to solve the mystery, and he just tells her to keep thinking about it without explaining anything more than the author already has. It’s a trick that doesn’t land all that well, like he’s trying to recreate a Poirot denouement without doing the work.
The books are still cool though, I’ll keep reading them.
