Meet Calvin Adler

Dudes and Dames of the DreadVerse, #1

First of these sketches that I’m tackling every week. Trying to fix hard details about certain characters—in this case, Calvin Adler, the protagonist of Engines of Liberty. From his humble origins as a wool merchant in Baltimore to the height of the American rebel military in New Jersey, Calvin has a heck of a run in just a few short months, and that’s only the start of his story.

While never appearing in the sequel to Engines of Liberty, his presence is felt and has an impact on the story. Engines of Liberty is an alternate timeline where the Brits won the American Revolution with magic, but 200 years later the Americans want a rematch—and now they have guns and mechs. Calvin gets recruited for the main attack on Port Atlantis (Atlantic City), but his rebellious tendencies get the worst of him, and he ends up fighting both sides.
