Fum, Fum, Fum
Christmas Carols Explained, 5
Hat trick on Spanish songs today…depending on who you ask. “Fum, Fum, Fum” is technically Catalan, and that part of the peninsula doesn’t consider itself to be Spain. Like “Riu, Riu Chiu,” the name isn’t exactly a translation of anything. It’s meant to echo the strumming of a guitar, played during traditional Catalan circle dances.
There are mainly instrumental versions of it, but it does also have lyrics. The song associates Christ’s birth with rustic imagery, capturing the feel of the lifestyle at the time when He was born.
