Everything I read in July
Including while on vacation, hey-oh.
I finished 11 books in July and abandoned 2. Here’s the skinny. Spoiler alert, the skinny is not me, I weigh too much to be the skinny.
The Crossing—Ikenberry. Reviewed here. Good book.
Nine Princes in Amber—Zelazny. Not as good as was hyped.
Lost Treasures Volume 1—L’Amour. Best-of-year book.
Iron Gold—Brown. Better than I remembered, but the end was also as pointless as I remembered.
Johnny Tremain—Forbes. Love this book, it’s brilliant. I’ll probably read it every few years for a while.
Raptor Red—Bakker. I’ve read this whole book before, I just needed a refresher for this video. Got about halfway through it this time, then jumped to the end.
Animorphs #36, The Mutation—Applegate. Mid book in a series I loved as a teenager, and am only reading through the amicable eyes of nostalgia. I’m gonna power through to the end of this series because I never finished it back then and I’ve always been curious.
War on the Run—Ross. Covered here. Great book.
Dark Age—Brown. Only marking this as a “did not finish” because I got to about the 75% mark and wanted to scream. I skipped to the 95% mark from there. Anything I jumped was just repeated/re-covered in book six, so nothing of value of lost. I’m furious at how bad this book is.
Tiberium Wars—DeCandido. Covered it in a video. Don’t bother, this is a corporate tie-in with a video game, by a writer who was probably underpaid, as is usually the case with these branded properties. You’ll read it to prove how much you like the game and you’ll be disappointed when it’s over.
Truth, Justice, and American Way—Eltaeb. Covered it in a YouTube video. Not utterly revolutionary, as it’s aping the DC Trinity, but it was a good (and complete on its own) story, with very good art.
Light Bringer—Brown. Already wrote up my thoughts on this. Still need to do a video for YouTube. As of right now, 2,000 people have seen my series rundown. Hooboy.
Get back to reading.
